[MinasCoders] Golden Girls IFMG
Caminho Seguro
In Ribeirão das Neves, one of the most vulnerable cities in the Metropolitan Region of Belo Horizonte, many girls grow up learning that getting home can be dangerous. Caminho Seguro was born from our desire to change that. We created an app that identifies safer routes using community data and mapping paths with lower risk. It is more than technology, it is a call for freedom, for justice, for life. Every line of code carries real stories. We want a world where no woman has to choose between the fastest route and the safest one. And that world starts now.

Learning Journey
Learning Journey
Throughout our journey, we learned to overcome technical and non-technical challenges through persistence. At first, we believed building an app and finding support would be easy. However, we quickly realized it requires time, effort, and independence. We spent months improving our idea, participating in events, and seeking feedback. In many moments, we did not receive direct help and were encouraged to research and explore solutions on our own.We also learned that securing funding is challenging, especially at early stages. With guidance along the way, we continued developing our project and gaining visibility, including media exposure, becoming more prepared to turn our idea into a real solution.
Information Legitimacy Description
We use reliable sources, such as research and statistical data, to verify the accuracy of the information. In addition, we analyzed how frequently the issue appears in the news and in everyday life, which reinforced the relevance of the topic. We also took into account classroom discussions and the observations of people close to us, confirming that this is a real and common issue.

When developing Caminho Seguro, we prioritized ethics by focusing on user safety, privacy, and responsible data use. We recognize that we are handling highly sensitive data and are committed to protecting it to the fullest extent possible. We will follow Brazil’s General Data Protection Law (LGPD), ensuring that personal information is handled securely and transparently. If the app expands internationally, we will also comply with the data protection laws of each country. To protect users, we implemented a code-based system for route sharing, preventing unauthorized access to real-time location. Emergency contact information is partially hidden to reduce risks in case of account breaches. Users have full control over their data, including the ability to view, edit, or delete their information and permanently delete their account.
