EcoAlerta
EcoAlerta is a mobile app designed to prevent urban flooding caused by clogged drains after heavy rain. Users can report trash and blocked drainage systems by taking a photo and sharing their location. The app collects this data and creates a real-time map of risk areas. This helps communities and local authorities take action faster. EcoAlerta empowers citizens to participate in keeping their neighborhoods safe and clean, reducing environmental problems and improving urban life.

Learning Journey
Learning Journey
Our team learned how to transform a real-life problem into a practical digital solution. One of our main challenges was working with the limitations of MIT App Inventor. We overcame this by simplifying our design and focusing on essential features. We also faced challenges in understanding user needs, so we talked to people in our community and used their feedback to improve the app. This process helped us develop problem-solving, teamwork, and communication skills.
Information Legitimacy Description
To ensure our information was reliable, we combined different methods. First, we observed our neighborhood after heavy rain to identify common problem areas. Then, we interviewed local residents to confirm patterns, such as where flooding happens most often. We also researched trusted online sources about urban flooding and waste management. By comparing real-world observations with reliable information, we made sure our data was accurate and relevant to our project.

When developing EcoAlerta, we carefully considered ethical aspects. We focused on protecting user privacy by collecting only essential data, such as location, without storing personal information. We also ensured transparency by explaining how the data is used to improve community safety. To prevent misuse, such as false reports, we designed the app to encourage responsible participation. In addition, we aimed to create an inclusive solution that can be used by different communities, especially those most affected by flooding. Our goal is to promote social good rather than profit. By prioritizing privacy, transparency, and community impact, we ensured that EcoAlerta follows ethical principles and contributes positively to society.
