Currently, electronic waste faces obstacles to proper disposal, including lack of public awareness and difficulties in transporting certain types of waste. In the medium term, this affects people’s lives, as these materials release toxic components that cause serious diseases, such as cancer and Alzheimer’s. To address this issue, strengthening reverse logistics becomes essential, and that is where Green Reboot comes in. Green Reboot is a gamified mobile app focused on responsible e-waste disposal, connecting users free of charge to collection points or cooperatives, allowing them to earn points that can be exchanged for benefits with partner brands.

Our journey has been wonderful, as we explored a highly relevant topic and learned more about the use of AI to improve our app. This experience showed us how important this technology is today and how it can make users’ lives easier, always serving people. We also improved skills like teamwork, management, and design, and met inspiring professionals such as Daniele de Mari, Eduardo Auada, and Cassiana Mendes, whose feedback helped us grow. Despite initial doubts about our target audience, we overcame them with expert guidance and finished this project with gratitude, confident in its future impact.

We consider our information valid because we obtained them through research conducted in person with companies, cooperatives, and university extension projects, in addition to using reliable websites and obtaining real parameters based on information provided by our own community through forms and interviews.

The Green Reboot development follows the LGPD (Brazil’s General Data Protection Law), ensuring user safety through encrypted databases and a strict data minimization policy. We only collect essential identification data: email, username and password required to sign up; utility features, such as real-time location, are strictly permission-based to ensure transparency. Our AI scanner was strategically designed to be objective, preventing unnecessary processing to reduce the energy and water footprint of cloud servers. To ensure fairness, the model was trained on diverse technical hardware datasets, mitigating bias and ensuring impartial feedback for every user. Regarding accessibility, the app features an intuitive interface with universal icons, like the camera for scanning, to simplify navigation. Beyond the technical solution, Green Reboot prioritizes environmental impact. By facilitating correct e-waste disposal, we transform potential pollution into a circular economy, ensuring technology serves as a positive force for both people and the planet.
