Our application is designed to support Brazilian adolescents and adults, especially those in the target age group of approximately 15 years and older, who experience functional illiteracy. These are individuals who can read but face difficulties in understanding written content. The app provides interactive, real-life activities that incorporate reading comprehension and basic mathematical skills, promoting practical learning. Additionally, the application features an integrated simplified dictionary aimed at enhancing vocabulary understanding and improving overall comprehension.

Learning Journey
Learning Journey
We spent days researching information on the topic and why it's important. In addition to the research, we sought practical validation from an expert in the field of education, a Portuguese language teacher with over 30 years of experience working in adult education, and we also considered feedback from users who tested the application.

During the project, we learned how to program using MIT App Inventor, as well as how to design the application interface. We also gained a deeper understanding of how functional illiteracy affects the lives of millions of people.
Our main challenges included identifying the appropriate target audience, developing ways for users to improve their reading comprehension and basic mathematical skills through the application, and integrating the dictionary in a way that allows the program to provide simple and concise responses.
