Karen et Vanille
K&V Curly app
In Quebec, many girls and women with textured hair struggle to identify their hair type, build a routine that truly works, and choose eco‑responsible products suited to their real needs, a challenge we have personally experienced. This often leads to trial‑and‑error routines, ineffective products, wasted money, and low self‑confidence. Through the K&V application, users receive personalized guidance that combines hair type identification, tailored routines, and eco‑friendly product recommendations available in Canada. The application also offers a Wash Day calendar, inspiration, expert‑guided features, and a supportive community.Designed as a sustainable entrepreneurial initiative,K&V can grow through partnerships with clean beauty brands while remaining accessible and impactful.

Learning Journey
Learning Journey
Our journey with K&V started from a personal question about textured hair.We learned how to turn a lived experience into a real Technovation project by listening to our community and validating needs through market research.A major challenge was working across distance,as our team is based in Montreal and Alma, about 470 km apart.Despite the distance,we shared the same vision for the project, which kept us aligned and motivated. We overcame this challenge by communicating regularly and collaborating online.Technically,we learned to design an MVP using Figma and prioritize the most impactful features.Mentor guidance and user feedback helped us improve our ideas and gain confidence
Information Legitimacy Description
To ensure the information we gathered was legitimate, we combined primary research, reliable sources, and mentor guidance. We conducted a market study using Google Forms and collected about 15 responses from girls, women, and parents in our community to understand real needs. We focused on recurring patterns rather than individual opinions. We then compared our findings with trusted sources such as official government websites, clean beauty standards, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.Throughout the project, we also received feedback from mentors during meetings, which helped validate our ideas and decisions. This process ensured our information was accurate and trustworthy.

Our team designed K&V with strong ethical values and sustainability in mind. The application respects user privacy by minimizing data collection and, for users under 14, requiring parental consent, in compliance with Quebec’s Law 25. The community spaces are moderated to ensure a safe, respectful environment for young girls, teenagers, women, and parents. K&V supports several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. It contributes to SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-Being by improving self-confidence and mental well-being through positive guidance and support. It promotes SDG 5 – Gender Equality by empowering girls and women to embrace their natural hair and identity. Through clean, eco-responsible, and locally available product recommendations, K&V encourages SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption and helps reduce waste. Finally, by promoting environmentally conscious choices, the app aligns with SDG 13 – Climate Action.
