Lendify
Lendify is a mobile application that allows users to borrow and lend items within their local community. Users can post items they are willing to lend, browse nearby available objects, and contact others to arrange exchanges. The app includes features such as posting objects, item listings, reviews, and reporting tools to manage interactions. In addition, users can earn a small amount of money by lending their items, with the price set by the owner based on the item's value ( 2$/day for a bike). The platform is designed to make short-term access to everyday objects simple and organized.

Our team learned how to turn an idea into a real app by experimenting with tools like Firebase, React Native, and AI assistants. One challenge we faced was using an Alert feature that didn’t work on web, which we later found was not supported. Another issue was storing images of objects: Firebase’s free plan didn’t allow us to store them properly. To solve this, we switched to Supabase for real-time image storage. These challenges taught us to adapt, research, and find better solutions.
Information Legitimacy Description
To make sure our information was legitimate, we always cross-checked sources. For example, when an AI suggested using the Alert component, we verified it using the official React Native documentation: https://reactnative.dev/docs/alert
. We discovered that Alert is not supported on web, which explained our issue. We also relied on insights from a computer science professor who shared knowledge about databases on Instagram, which we considered reliable due to their expertise. This taught us that AI can give context-specific answers, so we always validate information using trusted and expert sources.

When developing Lendify, we considered important ethics, especially in terms of safety, trust, and respect. Since the app connects people to borrow and lend items, we implemented features such as user authentication, reviews, and a reporting system to encourage responsible behavior and prevent misuse. We also included safety guidelines to support secure interactions.
We designed the app to be inclusive and respectful, where all users are treated fairly regardless of their background. Our goal is to create a positive and open-minded community built on trust and mutual respect.
To protect privacy, we limit personal data sharing and ensure communication remains simple and controlled. Finally, Lendify promotes sustainable habits by encouraging borrowing instead of buying, helping reduce waste and support a more environmentally friendly lifestyle.
