Mapa Cidadão
Mapa Cidadão is an app designed for the city of Caruaru that allows citizens to report urban problems and safety risks using location services. Users can report issues such as potholes, garbage, sewage problems, lack of street lighting, robberies, or dangerous areas, with or without photos, anonymously or identified. Reports appear on an interactive map, creating a risk area overview. Other users can confirm the reports, increasing reliability. The app encourages civic participation and helps promote safer, more inclusive, and sustainable cities, in alignment with SDG 11.

Learning Journey
Our team, throughout this journey, developed several important skills. We learned everything from basic programming to app creation, exploring new technological tools. During the process, we faced difficulties balancing tasks and the team’s time, as well as learning something completely new from scratch. However, through research and external support, we were able to adapt well and learn. We also improved skills such as editing and organizing ideas. We had contact with business planning, learning to think strategically. We faced challenges that strengthened our collaboration, creativity, and problem-solving abilities.
Information Legitimacy Description
Our team ensured the reliability of the information collected through research in trustworthy sources, such as official websites, including IBGE, and other recognized platforms. We also compared data from different sources to verify consistency and accuracy. In addition, we analyzed similar applications, observing how they work and validating relevant information. This process helped us confirm that the data used was legitimate and appropriate for our project, allowing us to make more informed decisions throughout the development.

When developing Mapa Cidadão, we carefully considered ethical aspects such as user privacy, data security, and responsible information sharing. We designed the app to avoid collecting unnecessary personal data, ensuring that users can report issues safely and, if possible, anonymously. We also included a system where other users can confirm reports, helping reduce false information and increasing reliability. Additionally, we were concerned about preventing misuse of the platform, such as offensive or misleading reports, and considered moderation strategies. Our goal is to create a safe, inclusive, and trustworthy space where citizens can express concerns and contribute to improving their community without fear or risk.
