Learning Journey
Learning Journey
We learned a lot about breast cancer, from symptoms and diagnosis to women’s emotions facing it, leading us to change names such as “guerreira” to focus on reminding them that feeling vulnerable is expected. Our main challenges were finding a platform that allowed us to include desired features, leading us to Base44 after thorough research, and learning to create a layout that expressed delicacy, which we achieved after some tries. Lastly, hearing suggestions helped us identify areas for improvement, but instead of quitting, we worked hard to make MAVI what it is today and learned to be open to feedback.
Information Legitimacy Description
To ensure all information gathered to build the platform was legitimate, we researched reliable sources. The main ones we used were from the Brazilian Ministry of Health and the USA’s National Library of Medicine. Another technique used to determine whether the information was valid was double-checking with other sources. If two or more sites gave us the same data, we considered it more reliable than if it was mentioned only at one site

When developing the app, we considered ethics by always reminding the users that the app does not substitute a medical opinion; it is only an informative environment. Even though we made sure to only get reliable information, our app does not replace a doctor’s diagnosis. Also, this app aims to enable its users to communicate with one another. Thus, in the MAVI community section, there are reminders and data supervision over all user input to ensure safety and user protection from inappropriate and harmful content. Users' data and usage are private and protected as well, not being shared or used by MAVI. Lastly, the terms of use and privacy policies were developed to ensure the app’s transparency, users’ trust, legal compliance, and litigation protection. Especially because users can store their exams in the app, it is important to have these terms and policies.
