Mindwise by Lumina Collective

Mindwise is a parent-focused platform that helps adults understand the digital world teens navigate daily. It begins with a personalized quiz that identifies concerns and connects directly to our WiserAI for tailored guidance on slang, content, and behaviour. The platform also features a weekly newsletter covering trends and key topics in teen social media use, plus a moderated question wall where users can ask questions, receive answers from our teen team, and responses from other users, reviewed by our team. With live sessions from specialists, Mindwise offers calm, practical support to help parents stay informed, build trust, and communicate confidently.

Learning Journey

Learning Journey

Building our app taught our team valuable coding skills, such as structuring features and solving technical problems efficiently. We also learned how crucial design choices are. It helped us understand how simple design choices like font, spacing, and color palettes can strongly impact an app’s clarity and look. Additionally, we explored the business side of app creation by considering our target audience, pricing strategies, and presentation. We overcame through clear communication, strong teamwork, and guidance from our teachers.

Our prototype was made with Thunkable, which served as the solid base of our app

Information Legitimacy Description

The information behind Mindwise is based on real experiences and direct research. As teens ourselves, including some with strict rules around technology, we understand the trends, pressures, risks, and online habits young people face daily. We also recognize the communication gaps that often exist between teens and adults. To support our perspective, we conducted surveys with students and parents about digital habits, concerns, and needed support. In addition, we consulted credible sources and studies on teen digital behavior to strengthen our understanding. This allowed us to build Mindwise using both lived experience and meaningful feedback from our community.

Ethics

We carefully considered ethics by ensuring the app promotes trust, privacy, and respectful communication. Because Mindwise addresses teens’ digital lives, we aimed to guide parents without encouraging control or fear. We used our school’s AI system, meaning user data is securely stored within a protected environment and not shared externally. Survey responses from students and parents were collected only for general insights, without any identifying information. We also used GitHub Pages to publish our website, providing secure and reliable hosting while supporting user privacy. Since Mindwise includes AI support and public questions, we designed responses to be respectful, age-appropriate, and supportive. As students, we aimed to represent teen experiences honestly while safeguarding privacy and reducing misinformation.
