Otillexia
Otillexia helps people with dyslexia and low vision read and learn without barriers. The app offers adapted public domain books, synchronized audio, voice commands, translation, and offline access, allowing reading anytime. Users can select images from the gallery so that the text is automatically adapted and read aloud, and they can also participate in a forum to suggest new books. All of this promotes inclusion, autonomy, and interactive learning, democratizing reading and ensuring quality access for everyone.

Learning Journey
Our journey combined hands-on learning and technical and organizational challenges. We worked as a team, managing time and responsibilities. Beyond dyslexia research, the main challenge was building an accurate app using MIT App Inventor, extensions, and programming logic—features highlighted in our prototypes and screenshots. We learned that AI is essential for accessibility, using OCR to convert images into text and audio. We overcame server errors and processing limits through testing, tutorials, and mentor support. Business planning turned the prototype into a viable solution.
Information Legitimacy Description
To ensure the information was reliable, we focused on reading scientific articles and materials from institutions that are referenced in dyslexia research. We did not accept just any website; we cross-checked what we read across different sources to see whether the data matched. In addition, we always validated our findings with our teachers and advisors, who helped us filter what was truly relevant and accurate. This combination of research in academic databases and support from specialists gave us confidence that we were building the project on a legitimate and solid foundation.

In developing Otillexia, we prioritized data privacy and user control. After technical iterations, we transitioned from direct camera capture to a gallery-based upload system, allowing users to select specific images for processing. To enhance the experience, we implemented a history feature using CloudDB, which securely stores processed images for user reference.
We addressed the ethical implications of data storage by ensuring that this history is personal and accessible only to the user, promoting autonomy and transparency. Our ethical focus remained on accessibility; by storing past scans, users with dyslexia can revisit information without needing to re-process documents, saving time and reducing frustration. We are committed to maintaining a secure environment where AI acts as a reliable assistant for educational equity, respecting the integrity of the user's digital information at every step.
