Green is life
Plant at Home
Plant at Home is designed for anyone who wants to eat well while spending less. It teaches how to grow food at home at low cost and recommends the best planting methods based on each user’s lifestyle, considering factors like pets, available space, and sunlight. The app includes interactive activities to make learning engaging, shows nearby community gardens to encourage connection, and tracks the positive environmental impact users achieve by growing their own food. It’s a simple, personalized way to promote healthier habits and sustainability.

Learning Journey
Learning Journey
Our team improved our app development skills using MIT App Inventor. We used complex blocks such as the location sensor, maps, if-then, dictionary, lists, and other components, strengthening our programming and logical thinking. We also explored ML4Kids, learning how to apply artificial intelligence in our project to group foods by planting method, allowing users to choose any food and receive a clear step-by-step guide for the selected food. While developing the app, we deepened our understanding of sustainability and its importance in everyday life. One of our main challenges was starting with little experience and turning that into practical learning through more advanced programming. Another challenge was transforming all our ideas into practice in a short amount of time. To overcome this, we focused on building a minimum viable product and then continuously improved it. We overcame difficulties with the help of our mentors, strong teamwork, online research, and by carefully studying App Inventor documentation. This process taught us persistence, collaboration, and problem-solving. As a result, we grew together, strengthened our project, improved our technical skills, and gained confidence in building meaningful solutions.
Ethics
The app is safe because it protects user data and guides responsible behavior. We require account registration with a password, ensuring that each user's information can only be accessed by that user. This reduces unauthorized access and keeps personal data secure. In addition, the app actively protects children and teenagers by clearly signaling activities that require adult supervision. When a task involves potential risk, such as making holes in a planting container, we display the message: This activity must be carried out by an adult. Do not perform it alone if you are under 18 years old. Furthermore, if the user is under 18, the app asks for confirmation that an adult is supervising before continuing. We also use simple and educational language, helping users understand instructions safely and correctly, minimizing mistakes and encouraging safe, conscious use at all times in every interaction and step.
