SaniMap

SaniMap

SaniMap is an app that helps residents of communities affected by a lack of basic sanitation. It allows users to register problems with photos, map at-risk areas, send complaints to authorities, and track their progress.

After submission, complaints are forwarded to the responsible sanitation and health departments of the city hall, which then provide status updates in the app.

The project arose from observing families in precarious situations, where a lack of communication renders these problems invisible.

Thus, SaniMap facilitates complaints, accelerates solutions, and improves quality of life.

Learning Journey

Learning Journey

We started as three students with a social problem but no defined direction. Our journey was one of self-discovery. Reconciling divergent opinions during prototyping and coding was the greatest challenge, teaching us to use feedback. Overcoming failures showed that technology requires patience and collaboration, like conducting an orchestra. Observing people on the streets, we realized the project went beyond a functional app: it was about creating real solutions. Having the knowledge and being part of this whole is a debt to the collective. This journey transformed us from technology users into creators, practicing our full potential and our social purpose.

Information Legitimacy Description

The legitimacy of the information was validated through direct observation of urban reality. By confronting ideas with the real world, we realized the project should go beyond functional code to offer concrete solutions. The process of reconciling divergent opinions and using constant feedback during prototyping served as a critical filter. This practice of collective listening and overcoming failures together ensured the applied knowledge was authentic and responsible, transforming technical perceptions into a legitimate social commitment toward the community. Grounded approach was essential to ensure the total accuracy of the social data collected. This process successfully reflected our true mission.

Ethics

At SaniMap, we prioritize ethics by ensuring safety, inclusion, and accessibility for all users.

The application allows for the submission of complaints in a simple and intuitive way, making it easy to use for people of different ages and levels of technological familiarity, including the elderly and young people. We seek to promote digital inclusion through a clear and easy-to-navigate interface.

Furthermore, the project contributes to social sustainability by helping to identify and resolve basic sanitation problems, reducing health impacts and improving community conditions.
