Strong Mind

Many young people, between the ages of 14 and 18, suffer from anxiety. Acknowledging the potential difficulties in recognizing their own suffering, caused by social pressure, emotional dependence, family loss, among others, our solution is an app that includes: an emotional thermometer, based on questionnaires from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, data collection from the cell phone (e.g., usage time, sleep), and a multimodal diary to facilitate recording the user's feelings. In addition, our app raises awareness about healthy habits, such as contact with nature and animals, and incentivizes treatment seeking. We help users understand and seek to improve their mental health.

Learning Journey

Learning Journey

During meetings with psychology professionals, we learned about the work of psychologists and how to improve the credibility of our application in the eyes of other professionals in the field. Furthermore, we explored different therapeutic models through these meetings and the research conducted by the team. We also received important guidance related to communication, posture, and presentation strategies. Among the main challenges faced were the development of the prototype and personal issues such as anxiety and shyness. However, we were able to overcome them collaboratively, with the support and motivation of our mentors.

Information Legitimacy Description

Through meetings with psychology professionals and research conducted at our own school, we obtained realistic results with our target audience.

Ethics

Mental health is a sensitive area that demands careful ethical consideration. From its earliest stages, our app has been developed in collaboration with mental health professionals, and this partnership will continue after deployment to ensure compliance with legal and ethical standards. Furthermore, our app is built with privacy as a principle: although it uses smartphone data such as exercise and sleep to generate a mental health thermometer, all data remains stored locally on the user’s device. Lastly, our use of artificial intelligence is limited to sentiment analysis of individual journal entries, deliberately avoiding potentially unsafe features such as conversational AIs.
