WasteWise
Our app aims to encourage everyone, from normal people and volunteers to organizations, to help fight against plastic pollution, one (big or small) step at a time.
Our Cleanup page facilitates finding or organizing cleanup events, useful for organizations or volunteers. Users can report polluted locations on the map to let organizations and local communities know where to clean up. Finally, our gamified informative page was made for people who aren't able to directly participate in cleanups: they can learn about pollution and alternatives to single-use plastic to adopt healthier lifestyles, helping the planet in their own way.

Learning Journey
Learning Journey
Throughout the conception of our app, there were several dilemmas and disagreements we faced. It was, for example, difficult to make a decision on what features our app should have to stand out.
Most of the times, we solved disagreements by debating together and listing pros and cons to fully understand the effects each decision would have on our users and our app. We'd also sometimes just sleep on it and spend time thinking about everything before giving our final opinion during team meetings to reach a consensus together.
Information Legitimacy Description
All surveys were sent to dozens of people, since increasing the population makes misinformation or trolling less impactful in data collection. We've also only used information from legitimate articles and websites from well-known and reliable organizations (the United State's CENTER FOR BIOLOGICAL DIVERSITY, Yale University or 5 GYRES). No information was ever taken from AI-generated search answers or unverified sources, and facts that contradicted each other were removed. To ensure our users could also trust our information, we've cited all sources we used in our app, since the information we give is important for our project.

We have carefully taken our solution’s ethics into consideration, insuring it has no negative impacts on any parties involved.
Our app’s report function and the informative page will benefit normal, uninvolved people by encouraging them to take small, actionable steps that can help fight against plastic pollution. Also, to ensure spam/fake reports aren't an issue, we added verification systems they need to pass before being published on the app. The Report Map and Cleanups Near You will also help small communities as well as big organizations locate which areas are most touched by plastic pollution, and there is no prejudice or advantage to any party. On the issue of legitimacy for cleanups not created by verified organizations, these events will be marked so users will be warned before joining any event to ensure a safe encounter.
